XSONX® Wound Hygiene System – Wound Head Options

Scrubbing Tools

Scrubbing Head

Designed for general wound cleansing, gentle debridement, and scrubbing, the Scrubbing Head is to be used only by clinicians trained in wound care or under a physician’s prescription. It features raised, wavy grooves measuring 0.8mm in height. For proper use, the head may be moved in small circular motions or side-to-side across the wound surface.

Small Debridement Head

The Small Debridement Head has pointed 2mm teeth at both ends, allowing access to small or hard-to-reach wound areas. Trained clinicians can use this head with a physician’s prescription for precise debridement. It also supports angled back-pull techniques for treating wound edges. Movements should be limited to small circles or linear passes across the wound.

Small Debridement Head With Curette (Purple)

This specialized tool is intended for use only by physicians or highly trained wound care practitioners. It includes a 4.5mm loop curette, sharp on both sides, unlike standard curettes. To operate, rotate the device with the curette facing downward.

Important: The curette cover must be removed before treatment and replaced immediately after the procedure. Always keep the curette covered when not in use.

For Prescription Use Only

Note: This device is restricted by federal law for sale or use only by licensed healthcare professionals.

Caution

  • A qualified medical professional must conduct a full wound assessment before deciding to perform debridement, including the use of XSONX®.
  • Use with caution for wounds involving autoimmune conditions, underlying disease, or suspected Pyoderma Gangrenosum.
  • Extra care should be taken with patients on blood thinners or those with bleeding disorders.
  • If multiple wounds are present, especially when one is infected, use a separate wound head for each site.
  • For patients sensitive to pain, the physician may prescribe topical anesthetics (e.g., lidocaine jelly 2–4% or EMLA cream).

Contraindications

  • Not recommended for malignant or potentially malignant wounds.
  • Should not be used for advanced Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) without revascularization.
  • Heel pressure ulcers with closed, non-infected eschar should not be debrided (per NPUAP guidelines).
  • Avoid in pathological wounds or those at risk of pathergy.
  • Not intended for patients unable to tolerate or manage pain.
  • Do not use for internal wounds, wounds with exposed internal structures, or deep penetrating injuries.
  • Avoid wounds near large arteries, veins, or blood vessels due to bleeding risk.
  • If bleeding or wound enlargement occurs, stop immediately and notify the physician—this may indicate infection, vascular disease, or other chronic conditions.

Precautions

  • Do not submerge the handpiece in liquid.
  • Clean, disinfect, and inspect the handpiece thoroughly after every use.
  • Always use a new, single-use sleeve and wound head for each patient session.
  • When using the curette head, remove the protective cover before treatment and discard both cover and head after use.

Single-Use Policy

Do Not Reuse Wound Heads or Sleeves

  • All wound heads are single-patient, single-use only and must not be reused.
  • Handpiece sleeves are also single-use and must be discarded after every treatment.
